Below are some examples of to give you more of an idea of who would need a permit and what to do:
1. Suppose you are an American seeking employment in Bulgaria.
First of all you have to acquire a Bulgarian work permit issued in USA by the Bulgarian Embassy or representative office in your city. The employer in Bulgaria who will employ you has to arrange a work permit for you for Bulgaria through the following the procedure: The relevant application should be submitted with the Labour Office Directorate (LOD) by the employer. The work permit is an official personal document and gives you the right of employment in the Republic of Bulgaria for a pre-determined period of time in a particular work placement, with a defined official employer. The work permit is issued for a period of up-to-one year, with the possibility of an extension for up to three years for executive personnel and more then three years for managerial level positions.
2. Suppose you are an Englishman seeking employment in Bulgaria
As an EU citizen, you do not need to get a work visa or and your employer does not have to apply for a work permit for you. You can freely find your job and work in any sector according to the Bulgarian laws and regulations. If you do not have an employer, you can register at an Employment office in Bulgaria and whenever they have a suitable position for you, then you can start your job in Bulgaria.
