Never, ever buy a car in Bulgaria. All you get is a pile of s..-rubbbish.

When you have the possibility to get a car over from the old EU... do it.

Need help, ask. I'm not into 2nd hand cars, but have the connections.

Me and my friend have just each bought a car in Bg.
Ford Escort Estates.
They are Italian imports. We had to go to the cat to register them, and also the tax admin office. That took two days Mad . We went up to a place neer Borovets, one hour from the Greek border.

Hi Shannow,

I reccommend Didi Autohouse opposite the new mall, lots of brits have bought here ask to speak to Danial, he wont let you down, I've bought 2 cars there and very happy, as are those I,ve sent there, go and have a look, say I sent you, Keith, he'll know what you mean, the rest is simple, speaks very good English, his assistant Plamen, good guy as well, also speaks English, if you do not see what you fancy ask, they will tell you what's comming in, in the next few weeks, or will try and source it for you, cars will come KAT certificate, service the lot, stress free,PM if you wish I'll give you my number and you can enquire more numbers for Did's

Agree. The used cars that are imported and placed on the open market are cars that are unsellable in the greater EU. Good enough for people who are willing to buy junk and keep it glued together, perhaps, but not good enough for anyone who wants reliable transportation.

Gano, I see you know technigue. As you said, cars that have been registered in BG are glued together. The newly imported are the cheapest they can get and sold over here in BG. Mainly from bad repaired car crashes, loads of oversprayed rust or with huge milage.

These cars are what are called "wholesale" cars in the U.S.: Dealers take them in trade on new cars but won't try to re-sell them oon their own lots because there is something wrong with them, so they sell them cheaply to a wholesaler just to get rid of them. The wholesaler unloads them to dealers who sell only used cars. If you want to buy a GOOD used car, you go to a new-car dealer. If you buy from a used-car lot, you're buying trash.

The people who buy these cars tend to be people who don't know or mind if the oil is leaking or burning, or if the differential gears or the main bearings are almost worn out. What they seem to care about most is whether the car is shiny and smells okay.

As for the KAT inspection certificate, well, anybody can get one for a few leva.

I can point people in the right direction here in Plovdiv. Read my earlier post regarding helpful Bulgarians as a guide. Making generalisations about the quality of secondhand cars and dealers is misleading and unhelpful to those searching.

Hello Baz. Im Peter we have mutual friends in Chepalere! hope to meet soon? Why does everyone slate the Bulgarians. Really good car sales in Plovdiv on the road at the entrance to hospital. He imports from Italy, good quality and reasonable price. Any country has good and bad. Bulgaria is better than most!!!

G'day Peter

Yes we will all get together soon. I have purchased two cars here in BG and had no problems at all. They both came with their log books and service history. The Peugeot was imported from Italy and I had it serviced at the dealership here in Plovdiv where they were able to verify the mileage and service history. The Nissan was purchased new in Germany by the man I bought it off, and he provided all the books and history for the car...........so it can be done and you don't have to buy a "gluemobile". I just take exception to people who are automatic experts and see only the gloomy side of things whenever someone else asks for help or advice.
