Balkan Road Trip - Travelling Companion or Driver Needed

I arrive in Sofia on Sat. May 26 & would like to find a driver and/or travelling companion for a Balkan road trip. Would appreciate any feedback - if you think it's crazy, please say so.

My intent is to rent a car in Sofia on Saturday, then drive through Serbia & into Macedonia, stop at Skopje for the night, then continue on through northern Greece and back north to Sofia by Monday. Keeping in mind any possible delays on the borders, would I be able to make it to Skopje in a single day? I realize the entire area is mainly mountains & that the roads are not in good condition.

I would be happy to hire a driver for a reasonable sum. If anyone knows of an enterprising student or other capable individual who speaks some English & wants to make some extra money over the weekend, I would appreciate any info.

Also, what's the situation like on the roadway border crossings? Will I need to slip the border guard a small "gift" to avoid waiting for hours?
