Hi.
I would like to watch any Bulgarian films, but I am not sure, could I find some kinds with subtitles in English. Do you have any information about this ( like website or something like that) and I'll be glad if you recommend me any titles.

yes, id also be interested to know this!

i was taking a walk a few weeks ago and i came upon the bulgarian national cinema, or the bulgarian cinema archives i cannot remember exactly what it was called. anyway, it was in the center somewhere, and i cannot, for the life of me, find it again. i would love to go back there and see a film or even just check out the program for the rest of the summer - if anyone has any idea where i might find this building - i'd appreciate it. also, evelin, if you ever want to go to see a sunday matinee, i would be up for it.

Contact me too if you find any Bulgarian films with English subtitles. I want to learn what Bulgarian writers and the film industry can tell me about Bulgarian society which I have not yet been able to see.

I am also up for seeing any movies actually. While it is cool to watch a movie by yourself, I hate not being able to discuss it with someone immediately afterwards.
So anyone can feel free to PM me if they need a Siskel to their Ebert (Mind you I prefer to be Ebert for his current verticality and Siskel's current problem with being dimensionally impaired at the moment).

Cheers

Hi steph
You must be talking of Dom an kinoto (Cinema House) - 35, Exarh Yossif Str, 1000 Sofia (near Centralni Hali). This is the place you should visit again.
Enjoy our cinema.

Zzzzz.

Hi everyone! You can purchase DVDs with Bulgarian movies and subtitles in several languages. Unfortunately, I have recently returned to Bulgaria and the only place I can think about right now is Orange on Graf. Ignatiev Str. and also one store which is at the corner of Graf Ignatiev and Solunska just across Slaveikov Square with the book bazaar.
Some of my favourite movies are:
1. Vchera/?????
2. Koziat rog/ ?????? ???
3. Orkestur bez ime/???????? ??? ???
4. Voinata na taralezhite/??????? ?? ??????????
5. Mila ot Mars/ ???? ?? ????
6. Sled kraia na sveta/ ???? ???? ?? ?????
7. Kradetsut na praskovi/???????? ?? ????????
8. /Osudeni dooshi/??????? ????
9. Izpiti po nikoe vreme/?????? ?? ????? ?????
10. Opasen char/?????? ???
11. Adaptastia/?????????
12. Liyubimets 13/??????? 13
13. Momcheto si otiva/??????? ?? ?????
14. Taralezhite se razhdat bez bodli/?????????? ?? ?????? ??? ?????
15. Margarit i Margarita/???????? ? ?????????
16. Trinadesetata godenitsa na printsa/ ????????????? ???????? ?? ??????

You can also follow that link : http://bgfilmi.bnt.bg/?cat=1 and scroll the pages by clicking on "????????". This is a list of Bulgarian movies. The names are in Bulgarian but still it is something.

Enjoy watching!

Here you can buy Bulgarian movies: http://video.balkanatolia.com/ All of the ones I have purchased from this site so far, have English subtitles. It doesn't heart to check, though, before you purchase.

I am not sure whether you will find any contemporary ones, but all the old classics are present.

It is good to watch those movies if you really want to understand why the Bulgarians behave the way they do. Obviously you cannot live through what we did, but at least you can get some insights Smile

A lot of people sometimes forget that the different nations have been growing up in different environments, therefore what is common sense to some, might not be to others.

If you want to read more on the subject, the best book to explain it simply so far I have read is Geert Hofstede's "Software of the mind".
