Bulgaria registers 8.92 per cent unemployment in March 2007

Unemployment in Bulgaria was 8.92 per cent in March 2007, Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova said.

According to Maslarova over the 20 months that Cabinet spent in office, it managed to achieve the goal of decreasing unemployment below 10 per cent by the end of its mandate.

Nearly 72 000 new work places were created and 168 000 people work under various programmes.

Still, low qualification of the unemployed is a problem that cannot be resolved in a couple of months, Maslarova said. More than 42 000 people will be trained to improve their qualification in 2007.

Maslarova said that the Labour and Social Policy Ministry will train and enroll in work programmes unemployed Bulgarians in order to stop paying financial aid to capable people who refuse working.
