Classic pop competes against folk and rap in Bulgaria's Eurovision semifinals

Semifinalists in the competition for Bulgarian representative at Eurovision Song Contest were selected on January 14 2007.

Well-known Bulgarian performers as well as first-time performers were among the 18 semifinalists, avtora.com reported.

The semifinal will the place on February 3 2007 in the National Palace of Culture.

Only nine songs would be selected for the competition final, avtora.com said.

Three other songs, produced by Bulgarian National Television (BNT), would enter directly the final stage. The names of the three songs and their performers would be kept secret until February 3.

Finals will take place on February 24 2007. Television visitors would select the winner through phone calls and SMS messages.

Some of the performers that reached the final stage include long-time Bulgarian pop performer Orlin Goranov; folk singer Sofi Marinova, performing together with rapper Ustata; pop group Mastilo; Star Academy participant Aksinia and a number of other bands and performers.
