Congress tourism to increase Bulgaria's direct investment
Bulgaria could increase its direct foreign investment income if it created the conditions needed for congress tourism, Bulgarian Convention and Visitors Bureau (BCVB) board member Josef Halbherr said.
Direct foreign investment in Bulgaria could reach three billion euro per year, Halbherr said as quoted by Bulgarian news agency BTA.
If every year Bulgaria hosted 200 events having 400 visitors each, these visitors would spend around 1100 euro a day, he said.
Bulgaria had to improve the infrastructure and the condition of congress centres and hotels to develop congress tourism, according to Halbherr.
Nearly 9500 congress tourism events were held worldwide every year, BNR said. The approximate duration of such an event was three and a half days. A great part of the sum tourists spent during their stay was for accommodation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment.
