Expat events for Bonfire Night and Remembrance day
Expatinbulgaria.com will be extending its successful Expat BBQ events by taking part in two upcoming events this week.
On November 5, we'll join the Bonfire Night celebrations in Dobrinishte, near Bansko, organised by Bamro and supported by the Avalon hotel.
Then, on Sunday November 9, we'll hold an informal Remebrance Day ceremony, together with the 2030 brasserie.
The Remembrance Day commemoration will start at 10.30am at the British cemetery, followed by ceremonies at the French and German cemeteries. Following the ceremonies, there will be a reception at the 2030 brasserie in Sofia's Lozenetz burrough.
The menu at the reception includes French onion soup with toasted Emmental cheese, Rocket, parmesan and cherry tomato salad and Traditional (Shopska) salad for starters, with main courses ranging from chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto with polenta, to salmon fillet with spinach and dauphinois potatoes, pork medallions on toast with mushrooms and melted Mozzarella or 2030 Bouillabaise, rich fish stew with tuna, shrimps, salmon and monkfish.
There will be creme brulee, tiramisu and crepes suzettes for dessert.
Entrance fee is 38 leva a person and includes one beer.
November 5 is Bonfire Night, even in Bulgaria.
In previous years, Bonfire Night celebrations in Dobrinishte attracted at least 100 expats, along with a large part of the local population.
The Bonfire, with life-size Guy, fireworks, hot pork, apple butties and mulled wine was such a success that organisors have decided to make it an annual event.
This year, the Bonfire celebration will start from 6pm onwards. To get there, follow the Bamro signs on lamp-posts between Bansko and Dobrinishte.
