Idiocy Inverted to be presented at the Institut Français de Sofia
French author David Foenkinos will present the Bulgarian translation of his book L'inversion de l'idiotie (Idiocy Inverted) at the Institut Français de Sofia on June 16 2008 at 6pm.
The novel tells of a young Czech named Conrad, who leaves his native land with hopes of being sheltered in Paris by his alleged uncle, Milan Kundera.
Foenkinos, born in 1974, studied humanities at the Sorbonne Paris IV, and later received a degree in jazz (diplômé du CIM). Failing to form a band for lack of a bass guitarist, he turned to literature, and wrote and had published Inversion de l’idiotie, de l’influence de deux Polonais (winner of the François-Mauriac de l’Académie Française prize); Entre les oreilles; En cas de bonheur; and Les cœurs autonomes. In 2007, he wrote Qui se souvient de David Foenkinos?, which was short-listed for the Femina award and won the Jean Giono prize.
He has written scenario for graphic novels and has directed a short film called Une Histoire de Pieds (A Story about Feet) with his brother Stéphane, and has also worked with directors like Jacques Doillon and Cédric Klapisch on screenplays.
At the moment, Foenkinos' Le potentiel érotique de ma femme (The Erotic Potential of My Wife) is in the process of being turned into a script for cinema. His first theatre play will be staged in September 2008.
To date, three of his novels have been translated into Bulgarian: Inversion de l’idiotie, Le potentiel érotique de ma femme, and En cas de bonheur.
