National theatre’s renovation enters final stage
The restoration of the central northern façade of Ivan Vazov national theatre in Sofia began on June 23, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
The company that will carry out the work, Culture Ministry’s Restavratsia EAD, was selected after a tender. Fifty workers in total will be engaged in the renovation effort, some of them unemployed who were recruited for the purpose as part of a programme by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy.
The restoration of the northern façade is the last stage of renovation of the theatre. The work is done as part of the project Beautiful Bulgaria.
Petar Mitanov, an engineering professor and a leading specialist in the preservation of Sofia’s historical monuments’, is the consultant on the project overseeing that work is carried out in line with the requirements of the Cultural Monuments Act.
