Orphic Mysteries Festival attracts National Geographic crew to Bulgaria
National Geographic (NG) will film the 5th annual Orphic Mysteries Festival, held at the foot of the scenic Trigrad Gorge in the Rhodope Mountains in southern Bulgaria on July 28 and 29 2007.
NG’s film will show Bulgarian rituals and beliefs that have been passed on from generation to generation.
The festival would combine pagan and Christian rituals, according to Bulgarian news agency BTA. The event revives various rituals. Barefoot fire dancing will be among the attractions of the festival.
More than 2000 people from Belgium, Russia, Greece and Macedonia are expected to visit the event, Focus news agency said.
The legend says that the Thracian singer Orpheus passed through the Devil's Throat Cave near Trigrad on his way to hell on a search for his love Eurydice. The cave has become a tourist attraction for visitors.
