Unemployment in Bulgaria exceeds seven per cent in June 2007
Unemployment rate in Bulgaria reached 7.42 per cent in June 2007, Labour and Social Policy Minister Emilia Maslarova said.
Bulgaria was among the 15 EU members, registering lowest unemployment rates, she said as quoted by Focus news agency.
The number of unemployed people in Bulgaria exceeded 280 000 in the beginning of 2007. Nearly 108 000 of them had high school and university degree.
Maslarova said that Bulgaria’s labour market had “serious potential,” which remained unused.
Labour and Social Policy Ministry allocated 190 million leva for the programme for qualification and re-qualification of unemployed. The programme trains mainly cooks, hair-dressers and constructors.
More than 70 per cent of the people who underwent the training under the programme managed to find a job, Maslarova said.
