Units 3 and 4 of Kozloduy NPP in very good condition – Minister

It is our conviction and also the opinion of experts, that units 3 and 4 of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) are in very good condition and could well work, Bulgaria's Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagaouzov told Denyat Zapochva (The day starts) on Bulgarian National Television (BNT) about the campaign to restart units 3 and4 of the Kozloduy NPP. So we cannot just put this issue aside, Gagaouzov said.

This is an issue of economics, an issue that causes damage to the whole region, not only to Bulgaria, he said.

Gagaouzov said that the debate on restarting the two units of the Kozloduy NPP could go parallel with the debate on Belene NPP.

He did not rule out the possibility to decide on the Kozloduy NPP issue via a referendum, but said this would probably not exert influence on other EU member states. According to him it was Bulgarian foreign policy that had to strive to achieve such an influence, Focus news agency said.

“We have to take advantage of the situation in Europe, to advance our intention,” Gagaouzov said.
